Environmental Literacy

So many key dates on our environment coming up with World Oceans Day in June, World Bee Day in May and of course Sustainability in Schools Conference at the National Education Summit, 14 & 15 June 2024. I also know many of our Catholic Schools are looking to celebrate Laudato Si Week (Caring for our common home) with a theme of “Seeds of Hope” from 19th May.

Thinking of World Bee Day,  here’s quick video of our 15,000 little visitors to Loreto Kirribilli several months back. Who said you couldn’t get Biodiversity in the inner city of Sydney? Video

I am very much looking forward to visiting the Summit in Melbourne to hear all the fantastic ideas that other schools are coming up with respect to sustainability. I am looking to gain inspiration and ideas from others.  One of our key questions is how do we keep the momentum going across our schools. One of my questions to our students has been “have we lost momentum”/”do young people remain optimistic…” about the fact that we can still change even though we continue to see negative media and recognising our last COP was in an oil rich state. I am looking forward to sharing our insights and gain an understanding of how we all continue to drive and change mindsets and our practices.

I look forward to meeting other school at the Summit, in the meantime if you are free to join a Lunchtime Learning Webinar with Taranga Conservation Society on 21 May.  Please see the above image and click the Webinar Registration link.  It’s free and open for all schools to join at lunchtime.  This time we hear about their Koala Program.

Come to Robert’s session on Environmental Literacy: A blueprint for making the case at your school at the Sustainability in Schools Conference.
