Beryl Exley is an experienced classroom teacher who is now a Professor of English Curriculum and Literacies Education at Griffith University in Queensland. She loves teaching grammar through children’s picture books and drama so students can explore the power of language for making meaning and evaluating text. Her current research work examines how students are using studies in grammar to engage as active participants in the blogosphere. Beryl is also the National President of the Australian Literacy Educators’ Association. With colleagues, she has published teaching strategy books on making grammar lessons fun and useful.

Beryl will present playing with grammar for reading and writing at this year’s Literacy Conference.
