Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre

Overview

A lot has changed in the education sector in the last 10 years. There is growing pressure on leaders and teachers around policy, compliance, administration and a wealth of other day to day issues. Alongside of these issues is the growth and innovative use of emerging digital technologies and how they promise to enhance the learning experience.

Across the Conference sessions you will hear and learn:

  • As conventional teaching models evolve and emerging technologies gain a solid foothold, formal learning environments require an upgrade to reflect 21st century practice

  • In the technology-enabled classroom, educators are moving beyond dispensing information and assessing students' knowledge

  • How to engage students in a multi and interdisciplinary learning context

  • Hear and learn from colleagues who are successfully grappling with the contemporary challenges that school leadership must address

  • Reflect on the models of leadership that can position your school as a leading digital school

As a leader how do you:

  • Support your non-instructional teachers to incorporate digital tools into all subjects?

  • Introduce, maintain and enhance digital pedagogical practices and effective use of digital tools with new and existing classroom teachers?

  • Train and support teachers to be able to help students navigate digital learning – (Horizon Report 2024 future Direction)

Engaging students in a multi and interdisciplinary learning context breaks down barriers that have traditionally existed between different classes and subjects and offers learners opportunities to make new connections. Educators are working together across disciplines to develop integrative projects and goals that give students perspective on how a wide variety of knowledge and skill sets tie into each other in the real world.

As a leader how do you inspire your teachers and create the conditions and support needed for them to become entrepreneurs, feeling supported and free to take risks, be innovative and create learning spaces that will allow our students to thrive.

LIFT: Leading Information Fluency for (your) Teachers

Schools have multiple demands placed on them, however, the core is developing learning, knowledge, and capacities for our students. Information fluency is one pathway that can integrate curriculum, learning skills with an underlying basis of digital literacy through a different lens of how we can present the mandatory components of the curriculum in a seamless way. This session will present possible pathways for leaders to enact innovative strategies in times of diminishing resources.

Speaker: Rachael Yates, Secondary Teaching and Learning Framework Leader, St Peters Lutheran College

Creating a Culture of Innovation: Leading a Large Digital School

We will explore how our eLearning team supports staff, students, and parents in building a digitally innovative community at our College. Learn how we enact our eLearning vision to foster innovation, digital literacy and learner skills by creating engaging digital environments, empowered by both established and emerging technologies. We’ll share strategies for supporting staff and students as they embrace new technologies, take risks, and create dynamic learning spaces. Discover how our IT and eLearning teams collaborate to ensure teachers and students have the tools they need for effective learning, while maintaining a secure digital environment in line with growing cyber regulations. We’ll also highlight the importance of ongoing professional learning for staff and share practical examples of what works—and what doesn’t—in leading a large digital school.

Speaker: Chelsea Carter, Assistant Principal – Learning & Teaching, St Ambrose Primary School

Supporting the authentic use of iPads

The session emphasises the development of a shared vision for integrating technology into teaching and learning. Leaders must ensure that digital tools like iPads are not just used more frequently, but used effectively to support student learning and real-world application. We showcase how technology, specifically iPads, can transform the classroom into fluid, flexible learning spaces that promote deeper learning, creativity, and student engagement.

Speaker: Tamara Templeton, eLearning Mentor, St Anthony’s Catholic College
